Our inaugural “Industry Talk” outlined the need for young pipeliners and the shortage of young professionals in the industry to replace the aging workforce. The need for groups like the Young Pipeliners’ Association to build and retain a community of pipeliners is integral to the success and survival of the industry. With pipelines being in the media spotlight pipeline integrity is a growing and important field with lots of opportunities and challenges. It is the hope of the Young Pipeliners Association that these talks can help garner interest in the field as well as give young professionals in the industry an opportunity to mingle and meet colleagues of like mind and demographic. From our talks we hope to build a sense of community that will create valuable relationships to better the industry as a whole; through the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Regular site/shop visits

YPAC has yet to have a site or shop visit, but eventually YPAC would like to visit a mod yard or pipe fabricator or go to a live construction site. The possibilities are endless and we are interested in hearing where you’d possibly like to go!

Network at social gatherings and events

Yearly Ski Trip

Location: Fernie Mountain Resort

Quick Notes: In February 2012 YPAC hosted our first ski trip to Fernie Mountain resort. The event was a huge success with the help of our sponsors and a great group of people. We were blessed with over 40 inches of snow on the day of arrival and the opening of the Lizard bowl on our last day of skiing allowing some of our members to get the first tracks down the mountain. Check your email and our website for details for the 2013 trip, this year we are looking at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Gain access to technical workshops and seminars

2013 Banff Pipeline Workshop,

Quick Notes: The Banff Pipeline Workshop provides a forum for everyone in the industry to share their challenges, failures and successes they have had over the past year. Through sharing this knowledge, and experiences similar issues the industry can grow and become better for it. Numerous standards and practices have been born out of workshops in the past.

The Young Pipeliners’ Association of Canada had the opportunity to have a booth at this workshop. This was a great opportunity for us to meet people and grow our group. Our representatives had the chance to sit in on numerous working groups and learn about the discussions and challenges our industry is facing today.
