Get to know Ben Corkum, YPAC Atlantic Chapter Co-Chair

How would you spend an afternoon in a new city?

Exploring! Typically, I would choose to walk around and check out restaurants, coffee shops, green spaces, and various attractions the city has to offer.

Why did you join Young Pipeliners?

First and foremost, I’m fairly new to the oil and gas industry and I wanted to begin forging new relationships by networking with other professionals in the industry across Canada. Secondly, I wanted to play a part in the formation of Young Pipeliners’ new Atlantic Chapter to help bring opportunities and resources to ambitious young professionals in the Atlantic provinces who are looking to branch out.

Outside of Young Pipeliners, I’m passionate about…

Fitness! My favorite activity at the moment is running. In addition to being a healthy dose of exercise, it allows me to get outside, clear my head, and escape whatever stress I may have.

How do you measure success in your career?

One word: happiness. I personally find happiness in building lasting relationships with my colleagues and peers, and by making a lasting impact within my company, my industry, and my community.

How do you think the Canadian pipeline industry will change over the course of your career?

I believe that the industry will rely much more heavily on the production of clean energy. With the emergence of hydrogen gas (as a substitute for natural gas), as well as RNG, I can already see the industry starting to shift its focus towards a carbon-neutral future. Hopefully public perception will also improve as a result!
