Introduction to Pipeline Decommissioning and Abandonment – Join YPAC Edmonton as we welcome Plex Projects President, Landon Lonsberry.

What happens to a pipeline when it is no longer operational?

What is pipeline decommissioning vs abandonment? and what approvals are needed?

With over 800,000km of pipelines crossing Canada, effective lifecycle and asset management is an integral component of Canada’s pipeline sector. Join the YPAC (Young Pipeliners Association of Canada) Edmonton Chapter on October 9th, as we welcome Landon Lonsberry, the President of Plex Projects, for a Technical Talk focused on pipeline decommissioning and abandonment.

About Landon Lonsberry:

Landon Lonsberry began his career in the pipeline industry as an Operations Engineer for Enbridge prior to moving into their Major Projects group. Therein, he assumed a Project Engineering role and managed all aspects of their 1100 km Line 3 Decommissioning project. This multi-faceted project exposed Landon to the myriad and nuanced concerns of Canada’s first 1000km+ decommission project, inclusive of its regulatory connectivity to the execution of the Line 3 Replacement project. Landon’s developed expertise in the area of pipeline abandonment and decommissioning was used on the U.S. side of the Line 3 project in addition to several other projects within Enbridge.

In 2018, Landon departed Enbridge to pursue a consulting career and has been requested on some of North America’s largest and highest profile abandonment projects. Landon has since founded Plex Projects, a company dedicated to providing engineering and construction management services for pipeline abandonment, decommissioning, and other change of service projects.

In addition to his work at Plex Projects, Landon has supported the evolution of how pipeline operators accommodate pipeline change of service projects in a maturing regulatory environment through conference speaking engagements, participation on industry committees, and contributions to industry research programs.

About Plex Projects:

The team at Plex Projects has extensive experience in project management, specifically in pipeline change of service planning and execution. Through that experience we have learned that pipeline decommissioning, pipeline abandonment and other pipeline change of service projects require complex planning that strikes a balance between cost-effectiveness, environmental impact and public safety. Not only are we committed to those three components, our knowledgeable team of engineering consultants have discovered how to find that perfect balance.
