YPAC is excited to present an upcoming speaker session on “Challenges of the Canadian LNG Industry”!

The talk will be given by Mel Johnson – General Manager of LNG Projects  for Spectra Energy. As a General Manager of LNG Projects for Spectra Energy, Mel is currently leading the charge on Spectra Energy’s Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project.  This project entails developing and building 48” (onshore) and 42” (offshore) gas pipelines, compression and associated facilities across 850 km of tremendously difficult and remote terrain.  Mel is no stranger to the challenges of developing projects in these conditions, having worked for many years as the Director of TransCanada’s Alaska Gas Pipeline Project, pulling together one of the most robust environmental assessments that has been done to date on such a project.  In this talk, Mel will be discussing some of the challenges the industry faces in successfully completing a major pipeline project for the Canadian LNG industry.   From community and aboriginal consultation, stringent environmental regulations, and economic considerations, to the technical design and construction challenges, Mel will address the myriad of variables that goes into determining whether any of the proposed lines will be constructed successfully.
